OFR

Non-contact radar velocity sensor

The OFR radar sensor measures flow velocities without any contact with the medium.

The absence of contact allows use with all types of fluids, including corrosive or high-temperature, and considerably reduces maintenance requirements.

It also expands flowmetering applications by enabling measurements with low fluid levels and with higher velocities, as compared to more traditional velocity sensors such as submerged Doppler sensors.

Applications

  • Sewer systems, treatment plant inlets, and outlets
  • Watercourses, flood monitoring
  • Industrial process water, cooling water
  • Measuring points with high pollution loads and sedimentation
  • Load-bearing measuring points
  • Channel installation not possible
  • Torrential or low-level flows
  • Can be combined to any level sensor with 4-20 mA, Hart or Modbus output, for flowmetering requirements (ultrasonic, radar, hydrostatic); see NivuFlow flowmeter range, models 550, and 7550.

Main benefits

  • No contact with the environment, no maintenance
  • Suitable for all fluids: wastewater, corrosive liquids, high temperature, etc.
  • Safe installation with no flow interruption and no need for civil engineering
  • Measurement not influenced by turbidity
  • Measurement possible with low fluid levels (a few millimeters)
  • Wide velocity range (bidirectional): +/- 10-15 cm/sec to +/- 15 m/sec
  • Can be combined with a submerged sensor for measurement continuity in the event of overload; see Cross-correlation and Doppler velocity sensors, and NivuFlow 7550 hybrid flowmeter
  • Extremely compact, lightweight sensor
  • Can be used on sites without power; see NivuFlow Mobile 550 product
  • Approval for potentially explosive areas Class I/Division 1 (optional)
