HWM's Pressure Transient Logger (PTL) has been specifically designed for the investigation and recording of water hammer events or pressure breaks in pipelines.

The PTL can be used for temporary measurement campaigns to identify the source of pressure anomalies observed on a network, as well as permanent instrumentation to prevent major incidents; its integrated telemetry functions can then alert operators in the event of abnormal changes.

The investigation of water hammers is therefore no longer a temporary activity and can be integrated into the general monitoring of the network, just like pressure or flow measurements.

Water hammers are detected immediately, allowing faster interventions and limiting damage to the infrastructure.

  • Continuous monitoring of pressure transients on water systems
  • Campaigns to identify the periods and the origin of water hammers or sudden drops in pressure observed on the networks (stop/start of pumps, opening/closing of valves, etc.)

Main benefits

  • Flexible adaptation with internal or external pressure sensors
  • Possibility of adding other monitoring measures (flow rates, other pressure measurements...)
  • Permanent external power supply or battery powered
  • Long battery life (1 to 5 years depending on use)
  • Availability of external battery packs to increase this duration
  • Waterproof IP68 (Submersible), stainless steel 316 connectors
  • Works on the new LTE-M/NBIoT cellular networks that offer:
    — Better communication in difficult locations (e.g., manholes under the road)
    — reduced energy consumption
  • High level of security of communications, with SMS backup in case of reduced availability on the Data IP channel of the networks.
  • Configurable remotely
  • Advanced measurement and alarm management functions
  • Can be integrated into an existing SCADA system

  • High-frequency logging: up to 100 measurements per second
  • Automatic selection of measurements around the transient event (before, during and after)
  • Easily configurable recording thresholds and frequencies
  • 4 GB internal memory (2 billion data points)
  • Possibility of additional inputs (flowmeters...)

  • Dimensions (H x W x D): 199 x 125 x 66 mm
  • Weight: 1.6 kg
  • Cast Aluminum Housing
  • Operating Temperatures: -20°C to +70°C
  • IP68 waterproof (submersible)
  • Powered by internal batteries and, if desired, external packs
  • Possibility of primary power supply by 12V source (batteries used as backup in this case)

  • Integrated cellular modem LTE-M/NBIoT
  • Data and alarm transmission through Data IP and backup via SMS
  • Programmable locally via USB cable (IDT software provided) or remotely from Datagate platform.
  • Usable from the DataGate platform
  • Possibility of integration in a SCADA system
